This is Part Two of a short two-part series introducing KLŪ. Part One shows why you are ready to finally start sharing your faith. Part Two teaches you how to easily do it using the KLŪ tool set.*
So, when’s the last time you stood on a street corner with a bullhorn quoting scripture? How about wearing a shirt that screams “Jesus Saves”?
Now, while some people in our culture will respond to those traditional approaches, many won’t. And while we should never shy away from proclaiming the gospel, wouldn’t it be cool if there was a way to sidestep the natural fear associated with sharing?
Here’s a sharing tip: You don’t have to stand on a soapbox when pointing the way to Jesus. And you don’t have to cringe either.
With KLŪ, you don’t start faith sharing conversations, you invite them.
KLŪ is short for Keep Looking Up, and it will help you to finally get around to responding to The Great Commission. Here’s how.
KLŪ in its various forms is a signaling device that appeals to natural human curiosity. Whether you say it, gesture it, or wear it, each KLŪ tool invites the question: Hey, what’s that about?
BOOM. You just got invited to share your faith.
Your response could be something like, “It stands for Keep Looking Up, which means to look to God for everything. Or at least try to.” That simple response took less than five seconds. And you just planted a seed of eternity.
BOOM again.
So, let’s learn how to invite faith sharing conversations using one or more of the approaches in the KLŪ tool set.
1. You Can Say It
- Instead of parting with the standard “Bye” or “See ya”, say “Keep Looking Up”
- Instead of signing a written communication with the impersonal “Sincerely” or an awkward “Warmly”, end on a positive note with “Keep Looking Up”
- Or you could just say or write KLŪ
In part one this series, I wrote about my Uncle Dave using the phrase “Keep Looking UP!” He did it that way with great flair. A bit corny, yes. Do yo need to do it that way – no.
But Uncle Dave made it sound like something great was going to happen. There’s a lesson in that.
2. You Can Gesture It
So, you and somebody you know spot each other. It’s not the right time for words, so what do most people desire in that moment? Acknowledgment.
You could just wave or nod, but why not do something with real meaning: raise your index finger and point up. You are literally pointing to God. Christian athletes do it. You can score one for the kingdom, too.
Key safety tip: remember to use your index finger.
By the way, silence can be cool, too – point up when parting ways without saying a word.
3. You Can Wear It
Just about everybody loves being identified with something cool. Many of us use fashion and brands to communicate “I’m cool, I belong.” So, elevate your fashion: sport a stylish brand with a higher purpose.
- Wear one several fun KLŪ t-shirt designs
- Accessorize with the unique KLŪ wristband
- Slap a KLŪ sticker on your car window or water bottle
Before You Start
Now, before you run out the door and light up the world, two simple things:
First, pray. Pray over your five second response, pray for opportunities to share, pray for KLŪs you gave. In Philippians 4:6-7, God essentially says, “Hey you, stop worrying, give me some credit, just ask Me for what you need, and I’ll grant you my peace.”
Sounds like a good deal to me. Stop worrying, start praying, and finally get to sharing.
Second thing: practice that five second response. The more you say it, the more natural it is sounds and feels. You can model it on mine or come up with your own. Either way, you’ve got to own the idea of KLŪ before you share it. And if you think about it, you already do.
And there you have it. You can start using KLŪ today to invite a conversation on Christ you’ve been wanting to have with that someone – anyone. And you get to be you when you do it.
